"The blog that is a fusion of magic, entertainment and writing"

Biography

This year, 2012, will see me celebrating twenty-years of trading as Andy’s Magic. Being a magician is what I’d always dreamed of doing since I was a child. I remember opening presents on Christmas day to find a ‘Box of Tricks’ I became obsessed from that moment on. But, it took me until I was twenty-seven to take the plunge, leaving my secure job in the insurance industry and moving into the daunting realms of self-employment — but it’s a move I will never regret. In those twenty-years I have entertained at thousands of Children’s parties, weddings, christenings and corporate events around the Midlands and the UK and, thankfully, I still am. I've been lucky enough to have work with Don McLean, entertained Jeremy Kyle's children and I've been to Paul Daniels house - now that's magic.

One of my proudest moments was being elected and becoming one of the youngest ever presidents of the - highly regarded - British Magical Society; The oldest Magical society in the UK. It was quite an achievement and saw me making appearances on BBC Midlands Toady, BBC Hereford and Worcester Radio as well as being interviewed by many of the local papers and magazines. I was also lucky enough to be asked to play myself in the Channel 5, Children’s programme – ‘Little Attics’.

My second dream was to become a published author and it took a further sixteen years before I finally put pen to paper. Now, I just can’t stop and I’ve also succeeded in getting some of my short stories published.  My first attempt at getting published lead to nothing at all but my second submission turned out to be successful and saw my short story ‘Framed with Love’ published in the glossy national magazine ‘First Edition’
.
I was delighted to be awarded runner-up prizes in two on-line competitions and another short story made it into print in an anthology of horror stories called ‘Ghostly Gatherings’. Most recently ‘Revenge’ an 800 word piece of flash fiction was published in the Worcestershire Writers Circle’s anthology ‘The Unbroken Circle’ which was published to celebrate its 70th anniversary. Most recently, in December, my poem, ‘Generosity’ was chosen and displayed in the Crown gate and Reindeer Court shopping centres.

Magic and writing are the two most important things in my life – next to my family, of course, - and writing is as magical as any trick I’ve ever performed. So if: “Writing is the magic then the trick must be getting published.”
